Wartburg College's Annual Meistersinger Honor Choir Festival was held this past Jan.31-Feb.1 in Waverly, IA. Under the direction of World-renowned choral composer Eriks Ešenvalds, and Dr. Lee Nelson, director of choral activities at Wartburg College, CAL students:  Tanner Striegel, Katlyn Arthur, Ben Rapp, and Luke Rapp, rehearsed and performed with approximately 250 of the midwest's most talented vocal musicians. The Meistersinger Honor Choir performed "Only in Sleep" and "Northern Lights" composed by Eriks Ešenvalds, along with "Wana Baraka" arr. Shawn L. Kirchner.  The evening concert not only featured the 2016 Meistersinger Honor Choir, but the Linn-Mar High School Concert Chorale under the direction of Bob Anderson, as well as the Wartburg Choir, and select High School Soloists.

"Ä’riks Ešenvalds is one of the most sought-after choral composers working today, with a busy commission schedule and performances of his music heard on every continent. Born in Riga in 1977, he studied at the Latvian Baptist Theological Seminary (1995-97) before obtaining his Masters degree in composition (2004) from the Latvian Academy of Music under the tutelage of Selga Mence. From 2002-2011 he was a member of the State Choir "Latvija". In 2011 he was awarded the two-year position of Fellow Commoner in Creative Arts at Trinity College, Cambridge University. Ešenvalds is married and has four children." - http://www.eriksesenvalds.com/biography/
